Chapter I

"Experimental" is normally a word that sends up great, dense smoke clouds of warning, but this band leans more on the Black Metal than the experiments, and thus manage to stay on the reservation, while not really producing a listenable album in the process. This is an album of dense, lurching rhythms and weird melodic breaks that verges off into noise-rock territory a bit too much for my taste, even if it is refreshingly post-rock free. The songs have some strong riffs and melodies, but lack focus and structure, thus becoming more intellectually interesting than viscerally engaging. Fans of more traditional BM should avoid this, as it will just annoy them, but devotees of weirder music may find something to like here.
