Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm

I was already familiar with the fact that Colombia's Inquisition are pretty fucking awesome, but this is far and away the best work I have heard them do. This is their fifth full-length album, and it is just a massive slab of evil Black Metal with the required levels of wrath and hatred, but also a level of musicality beyond the reach of most blast-and-scream bands.

Inquisition blend a furious riff attack with a freezing, muscular guitar sound (see, this is how you do it – other bands take note). They have an epic sweep and melodic flair to their music that lifts this far above mere hackwork, and the doomy, hypnotic "Desolate Funeral Chant" is not only the slowest song, but one of the best on here. Mastermind Dagon once more wields his unique vocal approach, turning his voice into a kind of evil croak that mutters, intones, and chants out the lyrics. This band always has a lot of dynamic, and they never just flog one riff through a whole song, frequently switching things up and always with a new awesome riff to throw out there.

What I grasping for is a way to say that this is just fucking kickass, and if you love evil, occult Black Metal then this is a band to treasure. In the same vein as stuff like Blood Storm or classic Mayhem, Inquisition have produced one of the best Black Metal albums of the year.
