These guys are from Toronto, and are busy playing hard-assed Thrash without trying too hard to sound retro. I like that they are not slavishly aping the greats of 25 years ago, nor jumping on the stupid 'modern' bandwagon. Shotgun Cure just play Thrash like they mean it. This is self-produced, but it has good sound, and the guitars chug along nicely. These songs are a bit more sprawling and slightly priggish than you would otherwise expect from a demo-level band, but they keep the energy up. The leadwork is sharp and inventive enough that I wish there was more of it. Vocals are a solid breed of Thrash, without screeching or yelling, and while maintaining a degree of melody. Overall, this isn't an amazing release, but it is solid, and speaks well for this band's future.
