Here is the first official recording of this young Russian band who called themselves Leshak (meaning ancient spirit of somber mysteries). By the cool and funny cover art you can guess that these young musicians (according to the picture, I would say between 18 and 22 years old) play folk/pagan/Viking metal. It is indeed the case, and I would even add a they play powerful version of the art. At times, they remind me of Korpiklaanis with a crunchier, much crunchier guitar work and deep growls instead of rough/clean vocals.
Lasting less than 30 minutes, we can almost consider Chertovorot an EP. The first and seventth tracks are short and pleasant flute instrumentals with nature samplings. As for track eight, "Was Wollen Wir Trinken", we have a song that sounds very familiar to me. It is most likely a tune taken from the awesome German folk/pagan Viking scene. No keyboards or even acoustic guitars grace their music, unfortunately. This powerful album remains melodic though, and one of the main reasons is the flute. Of course Redgoat can also play more melodic leads and so on, but the flute of lady Zuks is what brings the extra smoothness and harmonious tones.
I believe Leshak is a promising young Russian band worth checking out. As it matures and gain more experience, they can come up with some real exciting music.
