This is a re-issue of Cryptopsy's 1993 demo. I've never been a big fan of the band, finding them to be a bit too technical for my taste. "Ungentle Exhumation" however is a bit more "in your face" than their later offerings, in other words I find this more enjoyable than, say, "...And Then You'll Beg". The production is of course of demo quality, the drums are sometimes a bit too much into the background and not as audible as in other parts. I wouldn't call myself a convert just yet, but I like the guitar work on this release a lot more, some catchy riffs in there and the solos stand out pretty good, something that's sometimes missing on some Death Metal release. The songs here are heavy and mid to fast-paced, a good balance in overall speed so things don't get too boring and repetitive (well, after all the demo is a little under 15 minutes in length! :)) The vocals are unintelligible growls that most death metal fans love, but I prefer the type of vocals found in the likes of Vader and The Chasm, for example. Hell, it's Cryptopsy: If you like them you'll absolutely want this, and if, like me, you don't like the newer stuff, you may appreciate this demo more.
