Bejelit are an Italian band who have been around for about a decade, punching out three albums of heavy melodic metal. This is their third disc, and while it has potential, it is largely just painful. Bejelit include a lot of electronic/industrial sounds as intro pieces to their songs, which does nothing but slow the album down and annoy you. Overall the guitar playing is solid, and the production is strong, but this band does not seem to be able to write actual songs, just parts of them, as none of these compositions really catch on as songs. You'll hear an interesting bit, and then it's gone.
The real problem here is vocalist Fabio Privitera, who is new to the band on this album, and they should throw him right back out on his ass. He has a lot of enthusiasm, but he cannot stay on key, and when he really opens up on a money note it is actually painful as he careens right off the staff. He spends too much of the album whispering, muttering, and otherwise over-selling the lines; but when he is not doing that he is caterwauling off key, so it's a toss-up which one is worse. He has limited range, so he tends to sing in the same key, which makes his vocal lines repetitive and grating...he just sucks, and he goes a long way towards ruining this whole disc.
I'd say Bejelit have potential, but if this is the best they can do after three albums and ten years, then maybe they need to just give up. We already have too many mediocre bands in the world.
