Long past their glory days with the three Tonys, Whiplash continues to limp along like a zombie version of the 80s. I'd like to say this is a kickass album, but really, it's pretty sad. It's sad when you have a Thrash album that doesn't actually thrash until track 4 "Float Face Down", which actually sounds like a song by a band worth hearing. Mostly, Unborn Again is filled with lame groove riffing, a weak guitar tone with no bite, and Tony Portaro's awful, tuneless yawping. Here and there they get things going a bit and really sound like they are interested in thrashing, as on "Pitbulls on the Playground", but then we are still left with Portaro's terrible vocals and stupid breakdown parts where the guitars groove groove groove. There are some good riffs on this here and there, but overall this is too slow, too groovy, and the vocals make it actually painful to listen to. Avoid.
