Messenger of Doom

Interesting, if not simply weird little release here.  Vault Dweller sound like a mix of 70s Hard Rock and Black Sabbath - heavy, slow, a little bit stoner (the kind of music you think of when you think of smoking a joint or whatever), and with the occasional faster passages and a little bit of solos.  Now take that, and make it a little garage band-like and lo-fi, and you've got Messenger of Doom.  Now musically this is pretty cool, although some otherwise potential audience may find it a little bit too chaotic and garage-sounding for their taste — personally I find it gives the music a little "charm."  The problem is the style of vocals used.  Screams.  That's right.  Call me crazy, but "screechy screams" don't mix too well with the music style I just described.  So as much as the parts without vocals can sound cool here, when the vocals kick in, the experience is ruined.  Moreover, I think the band is further alienating itself from the type of people most prone to like the music style - they usually don't like anything that's not clean (or more or less clean) vocals.  But hey, somebody had to try it.  If you can stand the vocals, there's some cool "beyond old school" music to be found here.
