Anyone out there that yearns for the glory days of metal when bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Scorpions ruled the world need look no further than Primal Fear for a pure metal fix. This is a band that plays the dual guitar metal style to perfection. There is nothing ground breaking in their music but when does every metal band have to come out with something ground breaking? Sometimes you are just I the mood to hear classic in your face metal and I can tell you this band will deliver.
Lead vocalist Ralf Sheepers is already well known to power metal fans as the ex-vocalist for Kai Hansen's band Gamma Ray. Every time I hear his voice it just reminds me what a big mistake Judas Priest made by not getting this guy for their vocal duties when Rob Halford left. On this album his voice sounds as good as ever but what really sticks out in my mind is the excellent guitar work courtesy of Stefan Leibing and Henny Wolter. The riffs and leads are really excellent and just a great vibe to the album. The rhythm section is tight and compliments the overall feel of the album perfectly. Mat Sinner (bass) and Klaus Sperling (drums) really drive the music home.
I would recommend this album to anyone that likes the classic sounding european style of metal that is guitar driven. If you like your metal more on the extreme side well all I can tell you is buy the new Dimmu Borgir album.
