Angantyr / Nasheim split CD

I keep saying that I enjoy split albums because they present us with two or three artists, with exclusive work on one single CD. It's no different this time with Angantyr / Nasheim. I knew Angantyr already for having reviewed their 2007 release Haevn but Nasheim on the other hand, was a pleasant encounter. Angantyr is a solo project from Ynlebongaz who is also the man behind Make a Change...Kill Yourself, which I also had the chance to work on earlier this year. Agantyr creates a somewhat raw but melodic Black Metal by making a freezing use of rasps and wicked vocals as well as distorted guitars in a mostly fast musical structure. Middle track Edsvoren is a longer lasting composition, more in the vein of his side project Make a Change... since the pace is moderate and the mood more depressive, woven by distorted / melancholic arpeggios and leads.

Counterpart Nasheim have composed a long lasting pleasure clocking in at 25:14. Three years in the making, Sövande Mjöd Vill Jag Tomma brings the listener through a wide array of emotions, besides the usual Black Metal grimness. One can be charmed by the clean guitar work of the intro, absorbed by the long musical interludes, puzzled by a few psychedelic passages or thrilled by a freezing doom segment with crunchy echoing riffs. Epic, crafty and varied Black Metal arts, much to my liking.
