On the one hand, this third album by Australia's Black Majesty is a really excellent piece of Power Metal, but on the other hand it's a bit of a let-down. I've noticed that as a trend this year, as a lot of long-awaited and eagerly anticipated releases (Cage, Twisted Tower Dire, Iron Savior) are just not living up to past works. Tomorrowland is another of these.
Black Majesty have been putting out first-rate metal since their debut, but this time they've slipped a bit. While this is as well-produced and well-performed as any of their past albums, it falls short in the songwriting. These songs are solid, but just not memorable at all. Once they are done, they are done, and when you try to hum something from them, you'll be humming tunes from Silent Company instead. On this album Black Majesty's tendency towards complex melodies has left them without any memorable tunes at all. Make no mistake, this is still a good album, but there's nothing here to compare with "Guardian", "Fall Of The Reich", "Silent Company" or "Firestorm". Good enough, but this band can't get away with just good enough.
