Debut for this Aussie one-man band. I saw this described as "atmospheric" and so I had an idea what it would sound like, but it's not that. This is very much propulsive, guitar-driven Black Metal with a riff style that is refreshingly packed with layered melodies and the spare use of keys to add to the mood. There are definite similarities to second-wave sounds like classic Satyricon or Emperor, maybe some Lord Belial or Sacramentum in there too. It's not original and not trying to be. This is just a good Black Metal album with satisfyingly rich guitar riffs and a production that sounds just the right amount of underground without sounding like crap. A worthy debut and I hope we get more.
