Eternal Idol is an Italian band that was founded by former Rhapsody/Rhapsody of Fire singer Fabio Lione. That sentence should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from their third album, Behind a Vision, namely highly catchy and melodic symphonic power metal. Lione left the band to join Angra, so Eternal Idol is now fronted by Gabriele Gozzi and Letizia Merlo, who supply the clean male and female singing and share vocal lines beautifully across the album. Symphonic power metal implies a high level of pomp and complexity, but I find the songwriting on Behind a Vision comparatively a little more down to earth and straightforward, which is refreshing. It is still very much within the existing confines of the genre, so don't go into this expecting anything you haven't heard before but that won't stop songs like "Beyond the Sun" and "Krystal" from sinking their hooks into your brain. Symphonic power metal devotees, this one's for you.
