And Then You Die / The Fifth Season

This is a compilation of songs from 1990 and 1991 from this Belgian death/thrash band. As can be expected from the period, this leans more on thrash than death metal and it's mostly the vocals adding the "death" part, though some of the music is extreme enough. No showing off here: This is straightforward, raw stuff that gets the head banging enough that it will snap off your neck if you try to keep up. There's kind of a dark, almost menacing atmosphere throughout that I don't often hear in the genre, giving the music a cool, creepy vibe. Overall, just plain, in-your-face thrash that gets the job nicely done. Looks like the band is still active, so it would be interesting to see what they're up to these days, though strangely, their 2023 album, Final Festering, isn't on their Bandcamp page...
