This is a stellar fucking debut by Finnish black metallers Veljessurma, which translates into something like fratricide. Icy and cold, grim and filled with intense fury, Veljessurma play a brand of black metal that evokes Havukruunu, early Moonsorrow and Skyforger. The shrieks of vocalist Maanifest are frostbitten and hateful. The guitar sound, while a tad wispy, still manages a fair and venomous bite. There are simplistic choral arrangements and folk instruments scattered about, and I find all of it to be unified quite nicely in a furious, but quite melodic folk-tinged black metal attack. It is maybe a tad bit too long, but that is a minor quibble. Keep an eye out for these guys going forward!
