Crimson Sun are an old band, only going by their current name since 2005 and a handful of others before then, one of which appears to be lost to time. With all that time, you'd think they'd sound tight and professional, but after seeing a very amateurish live set a few years ago, I wasn't holding out much hope for this album to be any good. For what it's worth, the band definitely sounds much more professional on this album, but I can't say they're any more impressive for it.
This is a very melodic and commercial brand of modern metal in the vein of Amaranthe, Lacuna Coil, and Metalite. If you like those bands, then this might appeal to you, for it's a tight sounding work that's heavier than average for the style, containing a really strong, seductive vocal turn from Sini Seppälä and a genuine earworm with "Sylvan," and honestly, they're good enough at this that they may even get serious airplay in more ear-friendly metal radio channels out there. As it turns out, I can only stand to listen to Amaranthe for up to two songs before the sickening, overproduced surface gloss and downtuned chugging makes me yearn for a belt sander to the ears, and I don't have many nicer things to say about my other examples, so even if this is arguably a quality release in the style, hence the score given not being lower, it's a release I just don't like much at all.
