Chronicles of Lunacy

Some kind of proggy, even jazzy death metal with brutal edge is what Defeated Sanity have to offer on their seventh album, Chronicles of Lunacy. Obviously, this band like this experiment, colouring way outside the lines at times, but they don't overdo it and the backbone of the album is plain old brutal-ish death metal with deep growls droning along, all to great effect. When they go off the beaten path, I find it can be a little off-putting—though one gets used to it—but since the band did not go overboard, it's actually quite listenable and a little different from the norm. Interesting enough to make me want to dig into their back catalogue.
