One thing that doesn't change with Old Forest is that they're not just rehashing past albums. Since the raw first album, Into the Old Forest, they've been trying new things with every album while remaining firmly black metal. Graveside is very melodic and melancholic and includes some occasional use of clean vocals to complement the expected shrieks. Despite it being strongly melodic, the music is nevertheless quite raw, sometimes even going back second-wave territory, reminding me a bit of Darkthrone as well as of Old Forest's first album. These passages are few and far between, but noticeable. I like how this sounds very underground with the raw delivery and less than polished sound, but at the same time it doesn't sound raw for the sake of being raw. Personally, the band's debut remains my favourite, but Graveside is a great mix of the old and the new Old Forest.
