This is not especially original but it's a lot of fun. This new Greek band comes in with a bang with this self-titled debut album full of speedy, thrashy, crunchy and melodic heavy metal. The high-pitched vocals really stand out here and I found they need a little bit of getting used to as they really pierce the eardrums. I'm reminded a bit of Bobby Lucas when listening to this singer, though Lucas has a deeper, less piercing voice. As I implied earlier, there are a lot of speedy numbers here, full with the expected over-the-top, air-guitar-inducing solos. There is no shortage of speedy, crunchy riffs either but the band doesn't stick to that formula and occasionally slows down into a much more melodic and slower approach. Anyone with a sizable enough collection of speed/heavy/thrash metal has heard something similar before, but Leatherhead have packed a lot of goodies into this album and it's fun and addictive from beginning to end.
