The God Particle
I have tried to like Attacker's later-period albums since they had to replace Bob Mitchell with Bobby Lucas, but overall they have just left me cold. They sound heavy, the riffs are solid, and Lucas can be a good singer when he has good stuff to work with, but the pieces just never seem to come together. The last one that worked for me at all was Giants of Canaan over a decade ago, and this one does not really buck the trends, finding Attacker producing an album that has no surprises for anyone familiar with their recent work.
This is prototypical of Attacker's recent albums. The music is good enough, but it never really coheres into a memorable song, as the riffs are much more rhythmic than melodic, so they don't provide any hooks to really hold on to, and that would be fine if the vocals were killing it, but Lucas just sounds like he is singing random noises without any real thought. He has a good voice to work with, but no real melodies, just a lot of screeches and double-tracked yelling. It gets really tiresome after a few songs, and nothing gets better after that. I kept waiting for a riff or a chorus to grab me, and then the album was over and it never happened.
