Psycho Psycho

There are comeback albums that are just a shadow of a band's early material, and there are those that are in the same vein. "Psycho Psycho" falls into the latter category. This band has always had a raw sound and managed to sound pissed off while writing pretty catchy tunes, and "Psycho Psycho" uses the same winning formula. A good mix of heavy and thrash, not overpolished (barely polished, in fact), varying from mid to fast-paced and no damn ballads here. There are a couple of songs on a slower beat that could almost qualify as filler, but they're not THAT bad - they're just not up to par with the rest of the album. Interesting to note, "Savage Desire" sounds like a total ripoff of Maiden's "2 Minutes To Midnight": The main riff is pratically identical, at times you could swear that only the vocal lines have changed. A tribute to Maiden? Maybe. "2 Minutes..." rules so much that I don't mind this at all, although I'm sure a lot of people out there will be whining about it. hehe. Speaking of whining, time for some: The last track ends with some silence followed by more repeat of "Psycho Psycho" chorus-like vocal lines. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Stop with the damn silences at the end of the albums!

The guys got older, but they still got it - the energy and anger are still there, they haven't wimped out a bit. Those calling "The System Has Failed" the comeback album of the year need to take a look at this: Megadeth can only dream of writing something like this nowadays. "Psycho Psycho" is a must for those into 80s-style heavy/thrash, period.
