Throat, this one from Poland, offer us some dark black metal with an omnipresent malevolent atmosphere—the album just oozes evil from beginning to end. This is very raw and chaotic black metal, very basic and straightforward, at times almost sounding demo-like. Some subtle creepy, horror-like sounds are bound the give the chills to the unsuspecting listener, really cool stuff for my disturbed mind. ;) The songs are pretty long, the shortest being a few seconds under 7 minutes and the longest at 9 minutes. Think of very raw mid-90s black metal, maybe even a little Hellhammer-style chaos on top of that. Some bands are playing it classic '80s metal these days, but Throat are certainly doing a great job of going 30 years or so in the past and doing it very well. This won't do the trick for those who expect superb production quality and technical playing as the album is mostly very basic musically (I mean that as a compliment). What gives Blood Exaltation its power is the pure malevolence and hatred that the band produce with those screeching guitars, muddy drums and nightmarish rasps. This is an EP even though it's longer than what many bands call a full-length, but I certainly hope that the band has more of this raw and evil sound in the oven.
