After getting my teeth kicked in by this year's Into the Realm of Cthulhu, I wanted to check out this band's debut from 2017. I was not expecting it to be as good as their second disc, but I hoped it would be good, and it is. It's not as heavy as Realm, but it is still a sharply written album of Death Metal with an epic edge, and it definitely shows the promise this band just delivered on. There are Entombed fingerprints all over this, and I would say the riff and songwriting here are even closer to classic Entombed, with somewhat groovy riffing and a lot of slower passages overlaid with trippy solo work, which is straight out of the Clandestine playbook. But even if this kind of stuff has been done a lot, I still love it when it's done this well. Into the Realm of Cthulhu is indisputably a better album, but this one is good too.
