Rot Among Us

It's amazing that Acid Witch can take a concept this juicy and make it boring. Playing doomy. deathy metal with groovy riffs and a '70s horror-movie vibe should at least be fun, but their relentlessly repetitive songwriting and shitty vocals manage to render it tedious. There is some enjoyable heaviness going on here, especially on songs like "The Sleeper," but then they just repeat every riff and chorus over and over until you hate it, and the vocals will lapse into a raspy-voiced parody of a witch on some kid's TV show, and you cringe. There are bands that take themselves too seriously, and that's obnoxious, but Acid Witch fail by not taking their music seriously enough.
