It’s been five years since the last Origin album, and 14 since they made an actually good album. I am not normally a fan of Tech Death, but there are exceptions, and this band’s 2008 Antithesis is a big exception, as there they managed to be tight and technical as hell while still being feral and aggressive. The albums they have made since then have fallen more on the "tech" side of the equation, and thus have been less and less interesting. I was not really expecting much from this but more annoyance, but Chaosmos surprised me.
This is a Technical Death Metal album that remembers the "Death Metal" part, as the diddly-deedly stuff has been dialed back in favor of intense, heavy riffing and high-speed aggression. This is not as good as Antithesis, but it blows albums like Unparalleled Universe right out of the water. If you like slap bass and jazz-prog stylings, then get the hell away from this and stay away from me. But if you like sharp, aggressive Death Metal, then this is worth a listen.
