Evoking The Demon
I've been using terms such as "does not invent anything", "been done before" and "not original" quite a bit lately, and I'm forced to use the same lines again here. Not that this is a bad CD, just don't look for anything innovative. Gnostic describe their music as "War Black Metal" and, well, it sure is chaotic enough to reflect the chaos of war - figuratively speaking, of course. :) They're a bit like a sped-up Darkthrone. I think "Darkthrone mixed with Marduk" is not too far off, but this definitely leans more toward Darkthrone in terms of playing and raw, low-fi production (that's correct, no Abyss production here. :)) Don't expect anything too memorable here - I can't say any of this stuff stuck in my head once the album was over (relatively common with this type of recording), this is simply a 29+ minutes onslaught of violent Black Metal and somehow you just keep on hitting play again when you're just having one of those days. Not too exciting, but it gets the job done.
Although not included on the promo CD-R, the retail version includes a 47 min. CD-ROM video track with live footage. Couple that with a good album and it's probably well worth your money.
