Ad Mortem Festinamus is an EP (at 36+ minutes, I might as well call it an album) from epic/doom band Evangelist out of Poland. I haven't heard any of the band's prior output, but I might have to rectify that after spinning this one quite a few times recently. Deep, resonant vocals are carried by marching riffs and pounding bottom end through huge-sounding cuts like "Perceval" (complete with a spoken intro from Boorman's Excalibur), "Anubis (On the Onyx Throne of Death)" and a solid cover of Manilla Road's "Mystification." Evangelist aren't forging new paths, rather following the lead of classic bands like Manilla Road and Manowar along with newer bands such as Grand Magus and Atlantean Kodex in terms of creating a lot of atmosphere with their thrumming rhythms and esoteric lyrics. Evangelist aren't yet at the level of the groups I mentioned, but if you enjoy them the way I do, give Ad Mortem Festinamus a listen.
