Hell Freezes Over is a Japanese band that plays early '80s metal that we used to call speed metal before the name thrash took hold and bands started getting heavier and more technically proficient. No, this is playing fast but loose, and it sounds like the band had a lot of fun just blazing away in the studio. Metallica's Kill 'Em All is clearly the prime reference point and inspiration and I hear the riff from "The Four Horseman" briefly in "Roadkill" along with some Kirk Hammett soloing in "Burn Your Life." There is nothing remotely original about Hell Freezes Over's sound but that's OK, as I said, they were having fun and that's all you really need to know about this album. If you want to take a trip back to a simpler time when genres and subgenres weren't muddying the waters, put on Hellraiser and bang your head.
