Acerus have been Daniel Corchado's outlet for waving the flag of good old-fashioned Heavy Metal since 2012, and with how much I loved this year's The Tertiary Rites, I figured I'd take a look at some of their previous output. This EP was released two years beforehand and appears to be a rerecording of some songs from their debut, but I'm not quite certain. All I know is that this is more of the hooky, melodic, NWOBHM-tinged Heavy Metal that I wanted it to be. Every song on here is mesmerizing, with each one chock full of killer riffs and haunting melodies like only Daniel knows how to make, all of which are involved and captivating without overloading the compositions in the slightest. Rather than Esteban Julian Pena on vocals, here we have Skyliner singer Jake Becker, whose performance works in a harsher, raspy style while being every bit as impassioned and soulful. Basically, this is 20+ minutes of Acerus as I know them, and it'll have you pressing the repeat button when it's over and inspire you to get more of this band in your collection.
