Uada is a band Sargon told me about, otherwise this promo would have been lost in the dizzying array of music that is available these days. They play the kind of expansive, epic black metal that I've learned to genuinely appreciate over the past few years. Djinn is their third album and clocks in at nearly an hour across six songs, so you know each one is going to offer plenty to digest. The album is full of cavernous atmosphere and thundering riffs making tracks like "The Great Mirage" the kind of song you can close your eyes and imagine yourself transported to a completely different world. Some of the songwriting is more direct and "in your face" like "Djinn", which I find closer to traditional black metal and a bit too cacophonous compared to other songs like "Forestless", though that one belabors its riff too much. I don't find listening to Djinn quite as magical as some other epic black metal albums I'm familiar with, but I do enjoy it, just not as much as Sargon, perhaps. It remains an album fans of Summoning, Finsterforst and other epic bands, black and otherwise, would do well to check out.
