Despite the number of Sorcerer albums reviewed here, this is my first time hearing them. Their brand of doom metal is not like, say, Mourning Beloveth, whose music will send you into depression. No, this is more akin to the likes of Candlemass and even some melodic, epic heavy metal bands that don't pretend that they're playing doom. Lamenting of the Innocent is basically heavy, melodic and melancholic metal that makes you think and reminisce rather than make you want to jump off a cliff (admittedly, the reminiscing could have some side effects...;)) This is beautiful music from beginning to end, aided by a powerful and clear sound that makes everything pop out. The highlight for me is the vocals of Anders Engberg who has a style that really reaches out to you and his voice is just infectious. There are no fillers here, making the running time of more than one hour feel shorter.
