The Day That Death Prevailed
It looks like Cardiac Arrest is becoming a sure bet when it comes to quality death metal. Just like their previous album, A Parallel Dimension of Despair, this new one is filled with speedy, high-octane death metal that'll mess you up if you try to headbang to it. The death growls have the sharp edge to them that I'm really a sucker for and, as a bonus they're mostly decipherable without much effort. The playing is tight while retaining that punch-through-the-wall charm. I rarely "air drum", but I found myself doing that a lot while listening to some of the songs. Whether it's light-speed-fast or crushingly slow, that drum work is worth paying attention to. The guitars have nothing to envy the drums, with lots of cool, memorable riffs and a few solos that rip through the speakers. I found I couldn't pick a favourite between this album and the previous one so, same rating. ;) Recommended for your daily dose of death metal insanity.
