Mimorium are a relatively new Finnish Black Metal outfit that formed in 2016, and they've already released two full-lengths including this one in that time, so they definitely have the productivity you'd expect from a Black Metal act so far. Rather than the grim, raw Finnish sound, however, this band leans more on the more melodic soundscapes of Swedish Black Metal from the '90s that recalls acts like Allegiance, Dark Funeral, and Mörk Gryning. That's not to say they are lacking in grit or attitude, just that they focus more on creating dark, lovely melodies that could easily be passed off as coming from a lost relic of that scene. The songwriting is tight and organic, with the songs blazing by with variety and nice interplays between more typical Black Metal shrieks and a more grunted vocal style. Can't really list highlights because all the songs rule in some way, each one making a strong case for a large-scale revival of good ol' fashioned Swedish Black Metal. Recommended.
