Lost Inside a Morbid World

Hailing from Ludwigshafen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, Teutonic Thrashers Boiling Blood have been together since 2003, and from the sounds of their debut album, Lost Inside a Morbid World, they spent the 16 years prior to its release listening to '80s Thrash during rehearsal sessions and somehow discovering time travel while doing so. You get your typical influences like Kreator and Slayer, but these lads inject a bit of the oddball progressive sound of Voivod to make themselves a bit more distinct than is often expected from Thrash. The playing is tight and proficient, with the vocals of Peter Rummel sounding a good bit like Tom Araya and Mem von Stein and the band as a whole working to keep their sound varied and individual. From the Voivod-esque "Lost" to the varied and odd "Abomination" to the vicious "Poisoned Throne", the latter of which shows Peter Rummel at his finest, Boiling Blood show more ambition and originality than many of the current Thrash bands working today. Overall, this album speaks well for this band's future as a distinct voice in the underground, and any fan of Teutonic Thrash is sure to get a lot of spins out of it.
