This is a repressing and remaster of Wyrd's epic third album from sixteen years ago. This is a band that has been getting more experimental and, frankly, less good as the years go by, so it's probably a good move to re-release the albums that were actually cool. Apparently, this has been out of print for almost a decade, so their current label Moribund has stepped up to get this thing back out there.
This reminds me a lot of other eclectic Black Metal albums from the period, like Himinbjorg's Europa or Aes Dana's Formors. Big, expansive riffs, a touch of folk, and a ton of atmosphere. I can imagine this probably sounded a lot thinner with the original production, but the remaster has cleaned things up and added some punch to it. This album doesn't have a lot of what I would call shape to it, and it should really be a meandering mess, but somehow it isn't, and while individual songs might seem kind of like they don't go together, the album as a whole really hangs together and creates a unified experience.
