One-man metal bands seem to be more common in today's metal scene, and Germany's Sinister Downfall continues this trend.
Sole-member Eugen Kohl is no rookie when it comes to running a one-man project (Death Carrier, Donarhall, Urschmertz, etc.), and with this album he holds the flag of Funeral Doom high while also challenging his listeners not to fall into a suicidal despair as he takes them on this journey. With only four songs and a 41 minute running time, he gives you exactly what you'd expect: dragging, heavy, twelve-heartbeats-per-minute monoliths that hearkens back to forefathers of the genre like Thergothon and Skepticism, each permeating with sorrow, hopelessness, and nihilism throughout.
Eremozoic feels like a dark and deeply personal journey of its creator, and because of this it serves as a prime example of how to do the genre justice.
