I have really enjoyed following Windfaerer's career as they morphed from a vague post-something band to a real monster of an outfit. Definitely folky though not properly a folk band, Windfaerer play expansive, melodic Black Metal with more than a little influence from the Cascadian school, but they add in prominent violin playing and neofolk-influenced riffs. With the highly melodic compositions and the low priority given to the growling vocals, this album reminds me more than a little bit of bands like Obsequiae. Heavy, hooky, atmospheric and innovative, this is an album that really builds a mood. I don't find the compositions quiiite as good as on the last album, but it's still a great ride.
